CHASE54’S NEW LINE
IN PRINT C hase54 has some new things going for it his year. The 30- year-old company
signed Jerry Kelly as a brand ambas-
sador—and he has had great com-
ments about what he’s wearing every
time I’ve spoken with him this season.
Chase54 is also using some new techniques on fabrics. One that it has been
using with great success is dye sublimation: a process that transfers dye
onto fabric from paper with heat. This
technique is more precise than screen
printing. The Kolton short ($84, shown)
is an excellent example of how a sublimated print provides such a wide range
of design possibilities. When I tested
these shorts, I thought the polyester
fabric had excellent stretch—which is
a major plus to add to a great look.
