Given Rickie Fowler’s highlight-reel finish, several clubs could be deemed key to his Players Championship victory. Candidates include the Scotty Cameron by Titleist
putter he used to hole several crucial putts, or the Cobra Fly-Z+
3-wood he used for his second shot on the par- 5 16th, hitting it
within a few feet to set up a critical eagle. Still, it’s hard to argue
against the club he used to birdie the 137-yard 17th at TPC Sawgrass three times Sunday on his way to winning in a playoff. That
was a 52-degree Cobra Tour Trusty wedge, bent to 51 degrees. The
wedge has a notch in the center of the sole to assist with turf interaction. “It was just a choke gap wedge, and it started to play a
little longer during the playoff,” Fowler said of the tee shot on 17.
“But still the same club, and I hit three great shots in there.” We
have to agree. —E. Michael Johnson
