PGA TOUR SHOTLINK LEADERS
ONE-SWING
WONDERS
P ar 3s are referred to as “one-shotters” with good reason. One solid shot, and you have a decent chance at birdie. Here are the top five players on the PGA Tour in birdie percentage on par 3s and the irons they use. ( 1) Blake
Adams uses a split set of TaylorMade irons: the 2014 Tour
Preferred CB in his 4- and 5-irons and the Tour Preferred
MC in the 6-iron through pitching wedge. ( 2) The Masters
is an interesting time to change irons, but that’s when Ja-
son Day switched to TaylorMade’s new RSi TP with face
slots. ( 3) No 4-iron, no problem for Ben Martin. His set of
Titleist CB irons starts with the 3-iron then skips to the
5-iron through pitching wedge. ( 4) It’s no surprise that
Cameron Smith is among the best in this category: He also
ranks first on tour in proximity to the hole, using his Titleist AP2 714 irons. ( 5) Nicholas Thompson is third on tour
this year in birdies made on par 3s (43 through the Players),
using his TaylorMade RSi TP irons. —E. Michael Johnson
