H OW MANY PEOPLE will buy a noncon- forming driver? Jeff Summit, technical director at Hireko Golf, which just
launched the 515-cubic-centimeter Juggernaut driver, seems cer-
tain the number is not insignificant. “This is strictly for those four
out of five people who really don’t care [about the rules],” Summit
says. “I wouldn’t be surprised if it was our No. 1-selling driver this
year. Whether it is or isn’t is a different story.” Primarily a seller of
components, Hireko is marketing Juggernaut as “illegally long and
straight.” The clubhead is 55cc over the USGA limit for head size,
but Summit wouldn’t specify how much beyond the USGA rules
the club is for springlike effect or moment of inertia. It features a
beta-titanium face, and is available only with 10. 5 degrees of loft and
a closed face angle of 1 degree ($70 for clubhead, $114 for an
assembled club at hirekogolf.com). —Mike Stachura
