Drive time:
Mizuno gets
back in the
adjustable
driver game.
I T’S NOT THAT MIZUNO hasn’t offered an adjustable driver before. The soles of its MP-600 and MP-630 from 2008-’ 10 featured
a track with a sliding weight—technology that appears to
have been ahead of its time. The company is joining the
rest of the modern driver landscape this fall with its new
JPX-EZ driver, which has eight settings via an adjustable
hosel system. Intended for average golfers seeking higher
flight with minimal spin, the design uses a thin crown to
enhance face flexing at impact for more ball speed. The
JPX-EZ comes in two lofts ( 9. 5 and 10. 5 degrees), but
each is adjustable by plus or minus 1. 5 degrees. It also has
two lie-angle settings (standard and 2-degrees upright).
Adjusting to a higher loft promotes a draw, and adjusting
to a lower loft promotes a fade. The JPX-EZ ($300) will be
in stores in November. —Mike Stachura
